
Bhubaneswar: Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) has been ranked among the country's 100 best varsities this year.
OUAT vice-chancellor Surendra Nath Pasupalak on Tuesday conveyed to chief minister Naveen Patnaik that the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) had ranked the varsity at 91.
The OUAT has emerged as the top university in the state. It has also been ranked second among the country's agriculture universities in terms of number of junior research fellowships bagged. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has done the ranking. In another feather in the university's cap, fourth-year student Jyotiranjan Barik topped the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination this year.
It has also emerged as the champion in the all India agriculture university youth festival - Agri unifest-2018. The university has also received Rs 25 crore from the ICAR for improvement in quality education.
The OUAT was established here in 1962. It is the second oldest agricultural university in the country.
Dedicated to agriculture related research, and education, the university at present has four campuses across Odisha. These campuses are located at Bhubaneswar, Chiplima, Sambalpur, Rangeilunda, and Bhawanipatna.
