Tura, May 31: A group of musicians of Garo hills, Tura Music United, in collaboration with William Initiative, an NGO, will organise a programme to create environmental awareness and celebrate 150 years of this town from Saturday.
The programme, Thriving Tomorrow, will rally the youth to make Tura a better place to live in.
"As youths, it is our responsibility to raise our voices and make a joint effort. We want the series of events to be held in collaboration with the young musicians of Tura," a statement by the organisers said.
It will culminate in a charity concert on World Environment Day at the district auditorium here next Monday.
The organisers said prominent musicians in Tura have been contacted to lend a hand to draw more attention to the campaign.
"The activities, though quite simple, can act as the step forward towards a cleaner and greener tomorrow. The activities will be held during the weekend and conclude with a concert featuring young bands of Tura," the release said.
On Saturday, the campaign will kick off with wall painting at 8am, followed by planting of saplings, photography competition and film screening on Sunday. On Monday, there will be a photography exhibition and the concert, which will begin from 7pm.
"We have collaborated with different partners to plant saplings across barren areas in and around Tura," the release said.
