Tura, May 24: Tura MP Conrad K. Sangma and his brother and NPP leader James today laid the foundation stone of the PA Sangma International block at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in Ri Bhoi district.

Addressing the gathering, Conrad said his father had put in concerted effort to expand and establish educational institutions in different parts of Meghalaya. "My father was a visionary man who wanted to nurture the young minds through education. I am very happy that USTM is one of the premier universities of Meghalaya spreading quality education in far-flung areas of the Northeast," he said.

He lauded the works and effort of USTM chancellor Mahbubul Hoque in making the institution the best private university in Meghalaya.

James said he was very honoured to lay the foundation stone of the PA Sangma international block because his father had always loved the teaching profession and now his name will be associated with USTM for generations to come.

James said he felt happy to come to USTM and meet the faculty and students and wished the university would carry forward the mission of spreading quality education in the future.

"It is a very emotional moment for me as P.A. Sangma, who was a mentor and well-wisher to ERD Foundation, the sponsor of USTM, had always extended his help and support in the expansion and development of the institution and visited us several times. Through this effort, we want to carry forward his name and vision for generations to come," said Hoque.
