
Imphal, Nov. 29: Around 20 physically challenged people were given the opportunity to enjoy the Manipur Sangai Festival on the penultimate day of the festival.
The programme, organised by The Spastic Society, Manipur and the Manipur Tourism Forum, guided the physically challenged people to the stalls at the Hafta Kangjeibung and were treated to a feast, specially organised for them, at City Convention Centre, here today.
On the other hand, police apprehended a person yesterday who was collecting money from the stall keepers at the festival ground in the name of donation for the physically challenged. The Spastic Society helped the police catch the culprit, identified as R.K. Joysana, who had already collected Rs 1,500. According to Feiroijam Kripa, a member of The Spastic Society, Joysana was collecting money in the name of donation for the physically challenged for more than a year. He said such activities should not be encouraged as it affects the morale of the physically challenged persons who are struggling to live without depending on others.
In today's programme at the festival, the popular Raas Leela was performed by artistes from Government Dance College, Manipur, artistes of Meiwa Sabhyacharak Club, Patiala, Punjab, showcased their malwai giddha (folk dance) and other cultural events were performed both in the morning and evening.
Indigenous games - aramabai and sagol kangjei - were also part of today's festival.
In the adventure and tourism section, water skiing, sailing, wind surfing at Loktak lake and power paragliding at Koirengei airfield were organised. A trek to Mt Iso and Dzuko valley saw the participation of 50 people.
The festival will conclude tomorrow.
