Guwahati, Nov. 21: Top seed Sheikh Abdulla of Andhra Pradesh went down to a spirited Fatehdeep Singh of Punjab 3-6, 3-6 in the first round of ITF Juniors (under-18) tennis tournament at the Assam Tennis Association complex at Chachal here today.
The boys from the Northeast had a good day though, with Manab Kumar Chakma (Assam) getting past a fighting Dhruv Goel of Delhi 6-2, 3-6, 7-5. Vilasier Khate of Nagaland got the better of Rohan Bhatia 6-2, 6-3 while Keneisezotou Whourie of Nagaland defeated Manash Kumar 6-4, 7-6.
Among the girls, Assam’s Priyana Kalita was stretched before she got the better of Syeda Rehnuma 7-5, 6-4 while another Assam girl, Sumaiya Begum, had to sweat it out before getting past statemate Protiksha Sharma 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
