Kokrajhar, Aug. 22: The All Assam Gorkha Students’ Union in an executive meeting expelled its former president and adviser Bhaskar Dahal, vice-president Krishna Newar, and general secretary Tharka Adhikari today.

The union in its extended executive meeting following a 10-hour discussion at the committee office in Udalguri district also expelled the trio from its primary membership.

The organisation alleged the trio’s involvement in a plot against the students’ organisation and condemned their effort to weaken the Gorkha community.

AAGSU president Dil Bahadur Limbu and assistant general secretary Ram Chandra Adhikari, who chaired the executive meeting, elaborated the objectives of the meeting.

A media release issued by Limbu and Harka Bahadur Chetry, president of Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee, said AAGSU had to expel the members for their alleged involvement in the anti-Gorkhaland activities, after a decision was taken by more than 500 workers, delegates and well-wishers of the union.

Later addressing a news meet convened today at Gorkha Bhawan in Udalguri, Limbu said from now the union would mobilise the students’ organisation more effectively than ever before and try its best to keep a check on Bhaskar Dahal in matters related to the union.

He said the Gorkha students’ union would convene a special students’ meet to fill up the posts of vice-president and the general secretary. He added that the organisation would not be responsible for the activities of the expelled trio.
