South Point draw slot in semi-finals

Imphal, July 13: South Point School of Science, Imphal West, squeezed into the semi-finals of the U-17 Boys’ Inter-School Football Tournament for Subroto Mukherjee Trophy by a draw of lots at Khuman Lampak main stadium.

In their last league match, South Point were defeated by Achan English School Ukhrul by a solitary goal by Wilson in the 52nd minute to pick up their first point.

In the Group B table, all three teams, including South Point School of Science, Imphal West, MH Higher Secondary School Kangpokpi and Achan English School Ukhrul collected three points each and lost one game each.

The three teams also have same goal aggregates.

A draw of lots for the semi-final list saw South Point School of Science, Imphal West, get the lucky break.

In another match, Brighter Academy, Imphal East, moved into the semi-finals, after the injury-plagued Tamenglong Higher Secondary School withdrew from their last league match.

Tamenglong Higher Secondary School have been playing with only nine boys after the others failed to clear the medical eligibility test.

The top three players of the side were injured in the last match, which forced them to pull out of the match today.

With the completion of the league, South Point School of Science, Imphal West, along with Brighter Academy, Imphal East, UPC Boarding School, Bishnupur and Pherzwal High School, Churachandpur have made it to the last-four stage of the meet.

The winner of this tournament will represent Manipur in the U-17 title round of the Subroto Mukherjee Trophy, which will be played in New Delhi in November.

Hockey league

Hockey Manipur will organise the 2nd Super Six Hockey League 2011 from July 20 at the Khuman Lampak hockey stadium.

The teams are Manipur Police Sporting Club, Cosmopolitan Youth Club, Youth Club- Information Centre, Uchekon Youth Athletic Club, Super Sporting Association and Moral Education Intellectual Renascent Athletic Association.

Kung Fu: 50 five-member kung fu teams will participate in the 2nd North East Kung Fu Championship 2011, which will be held in Kohima in Nagaland till July 15.
