Bongaigaon: Surrendered NDFB cadres on Thursday staged a sit-in in front of the district judicial court, Kokrajhar, for two hours, demanding "life sentence" for Rakesh Brahma, 42, another surrendered cadre, in a murder case.

Brahma allegedly shot dead Darendra Basumatary, 31, a fellow cadre, in January 2016, after an altercation. He was arrested a couple of days later. A case was registered under Section 302 and 34 of the IPC against Brahma.

About 1,150 NDFB cadres surrendered in 2004. Of them, 300 were lodged in four temporary camps at Sudempuri, Karigaon, Serfanguri and Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district.

Brahma lived in his residence near the Sudempuri camp, where Basumatary was staying.

Last year, the case reached the court of the chief judicial magistrate, Kokrajhar, from a lower court.

Rajanikanta Narzary, general secretary of the Surrendered NDFB of Kokrajhar Area, said Brahma was out on bail. "He appeared before the court today after missing the last two dates," he said.
