Guwahati, Feb. 9: The special conference of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) today adopted a resolution demanding immediate measures by Delhi for the region’s development.
The SFI demanded that the northeastern states be declared special category states keeping in view their socio-economic backwardness. At a press conference today, SFI president K.K. Ragesh said, “Lack of development and stepmotherly treatment at the hands of the Centre has led to growing unemployment and insecurity among the youth.”
The SFI demanded basic infrastructural facilities, rail links with the rest of the country and adequate provision of basic health and education facilities. “These problems are not problems of the region alone,” said SFI general secretary Kollol Roy.
