Guwahati, Feb. 14: Santipur Athletic Club and Gauhati Town Club (GTC) registered thumping wins in their respective matches of the 4th Dhireswar Kalita Bud Twenty20 Challenge cricket tournament played at Nehru Stadium here today.
While Santipur trounced New Star Club by 97 runs, GTC got the better of River Rine Club by 54 runs.
In the morning match, put to bat first, Santipur posted a decent total of 159 for five.
The team then bowled out the New Star batsmen for 62 in 17.3 overs.
The highlight of the match was an allround performance by paceman R.K. Yadav who scored an unbeaten 35 off 20 balls, hitting three fours and a six.
Yadav also managed to notch up three wickets for 16 runs off four overs.
He was eventually named the Man of the Match for his allround performance with bat and ball.
Rajib Kalita topscored for Santipur with a 47-run knock.
He slammed five fours and a six.
Wasiqur Rahman chipped in with 33 (4x4).
Sikandar Basfore of New Star also picked up two wickets for 31 runs.
Basfore , with 18 runs, including four hits to the fence, was also the topscorer for New Star.
Abdul Saher Islam and Robin Das gave able support to Yadav, claiming two wickets each, conceding seven and 12 runs respectively.
In the other match, GTC elected to bat first and posted 149 for seven.
The River Rine team were all out for 95 in 17.5 overs.
Mriganka Jyoti Sarma topscored for GTC with 38, including five hits to the boundary.
Nayan Jyoti Deka (28, 4x5) and Mrigen Talukdar (19, 4x3) were the other notable scorers for the side.
Deep Bora remained not out on 21 (4x1, 6x1).
Raj Hussain, Mahmudul Hussain and Navajit Kaushik of River Rine picked up two wickets apiece giving away 29, 31 and 17 runs respectively.
For River Rine, Raj Hussain (33, 4x5, 6x1), Navajit Kaushik (20, 4x2) and Nausad Ali (18, 4x2) were the main scorers.
Sekhar Jyoti Barman of GTC scalped three wickets for 11 runs. Nitin Das and Mrigen Talukdar claimed two each for 9 and 10 runs respectively.
Barman was adjudged Man of the Match for his bowling spell.
Tomorrow, River Rine will play Navajyoti Club and hosts Bud Cricket Club clash with New Star Club.
