Nov. 7: If admission into the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) seemed like a distant dream, here’s a coaching institute that promises to make it a reality.

The first residential coaching centre for IIT aspirants of the region — the Pragjyotika Academy at Titabor — is ready to train its first batch of students from the next academic session.

“The academy will be the first of its kind in the region with residential facility to prepare students for IIT-JEE throughout the year,” said Ashyutdip Saikia, president of the Pragjyotika Academy’s governing body.

To ensure a smooth start, the Pragjyotika Academy has taken care to rope in the best in business. It has already tied up with Narayanan Academy of Kota, Rajasthan, which boasts of a phenomenal success rate in the IIT entrance examinations. Among the 5,400 IIT-JEE qualifiers each year, over 3,000 are from the Narayanan Academy.

Jyoti Gogoi, a member of the governing body of the Pragjyotika Academy, said the basic aim behind setting up the academy was to provide sound guidance, which would enable students from the region to compete with the best in the country.

“There will be no disturbance from any quarter and there will be teachers all along to help them,” he said.

Screening tests for admission to the Pragjyotika Academy will be held in nine district headquarters of the state and in Dimapur. At present, the academy is ready to accommodate 350 students.

“Students from the Northeast flock to other parts of the country for better education, but now they need not look any farther,” said Gogoi.

The Pragjyotika Academy will launch its website, www.pragjyotika.org.in, on December 1 where all necessary information will be available.

The success rate of Pragjyotika School and Pragjyotika Junior College in board examinations promises that the new institute will also become a name to reckon with.
