
Silchar, April 26: The rail service along Lumding-Silchar hill section was again disrupted as two wheels of the luggage-cum-parcel coach of 15601 Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express derailed around 1.50am today between Mahur and Phiding stations in Dima Hasao district.
The accident site is around 83km from Lumding along the Lumding-Silchar hill section under Lumding division of the Northeast Frontier Railway. The train comprising 21 coaches, left Silchar at 6.30pm yesterday for New Delhi.
The chief public relations officer of NF Railway, Pranav Jyoti Sharma, today said there was no casualty and all the passengers on board were safe.
"There were no injuries to any passenger. The train has been taken back to New Haflong station where all facilities like tea, snacks, milk and water were made available to the passengers," he added. "Train services over Lumding-Silchar hill section have been suspended again following the derailment."
"The 12501 Poorvattar Sampark Kranti Express, which was scheduled to leave Guwahati at 6.15am today, has been rescheduled to leave at 10.15pm. The 25657 Guwahati-Silchar Kanchanjungha Express and 25658 Silchar-Guwahati Kanchanjungha Express, scheduled to leave tomorrow, have been cancelled between Silchar and Guwahati. The train will end its journey in Guwahati and return to Calcutta from the city."
The 55615 Guwahati-Silchar Fast Passenger, which was rescheduled to leave Guwahati at 10.30am today, has been cancelled.
The 55616 Silchar-Guwahati Fast Passenger, which chugged out of Silchar station at 5.05am, was short terminated at Chandranathpur in Cachar district and returned to Silchar as a special train.
Weather condition continues to remain very bad in the affected areas and road communication has been disrupted in the Barak Valley.
Sharma said the derailed luggage-cum-parcel coach was put back on track at 8am.
The train, which was taken to New Haflong station, left for Lumding at 1.20pm for its onward journey to Delhi.
Pradip Das, a passenger of the train, told this correspondent that they were sleeping and suddenly there was a huge jerk and then they came to know that a coach of the train had derailed.
"It was completely dark and we were shocked," he added.
All Barak Youth Students' Association, an NGO, will file a complaint with chief vigilance cell of the Indian Railways, demanding a thorough probe into the irregularities in the construction of the broad-gauge line.
The chief convener of the association, Baharul Islam Barbhuiya, today said they would soon go to New Delhi and meet the top brass of the Indian Railways. "We will also file a PIL as well in Gauhati High Court in May," he added.
Two wheels of the engine of 15602 Up New Delhi-Silchar Poorvottar Sampark Kranti Express were derailed between Ditokcherra and Bandarkhal stations along the Lumding-Silchar hill section on Saturday night.
The Telegraph had recently reported the safety concerns flagged by the chief bridge engineer of the NF Railway, Alok Kumar Verma.
