Guwahati, Dec. 3: Pragjyotish College annexed the champion’s title by defeating Paschim Guwahati College by 20 runs in the final of Lauhapurush Premoda Kanta Sarma memorial inter-college cricket tournament at Latasil playground here today.

Put to bat, Pragjyotish posted a decent 130 for nine in 20 overs. Vicky Rajak’s 35-run cameo and Raju Kalita’s 27 runs off 25 balls provided impetus to the Pragjyotish innings. Laxman Das chipped in with 13 runs. For Paschim Guwahati, Ranjan Kalita bagged a four-wicket haul while Cintu Ali scalped two.

In reply, Paschim Guwahati approached their target well but fell short by 20 runs as they were bowled out for 110 in 18.1 overs. Cintu featured with the bat as well with 26 off 25 balls while Ranjan Kalita and Mousin Hussain scored 17 and 13 runs respectively.

Wrecker-in-chief Ibrahim Ali with four wickets and Dhiman Jyoti Das with three scalps swung the match in favour of Pragjyotish. Nitul Ali took two wickets. The champions pursed a cash prize of Rs 10,000 while the runners-up were richer by Rs 5,000.

Ibrahim Ali was adjudged Man of the Match as well as the Best Bowler.

Rupam Chetry of B. Borooah College was adjudged the Best Fielder.

Cintu Ali was declared Man of the Series for his all-round show throughout the meet, organised by the North-Eastern Entrepreneurship Development Society (NEEDS).

Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education was named the Best Disciplined Team.
