Jorhat, March 24: Social activists Rintu Goswami, Gautam Bora and Diganta Saikia today said following a Right to Information (RTI) petition, the ONGC had informed that it had paid Rs 5,336 crore as royalty to the Assam government.
However, another RTI to the finance department regarding how this money had been spent elicited the response that the mining department knew about this. Goswami, an advocate, said in a news conference that the mining department, on the other hand, replied that only the finance department knew about this.
"Both the departments are passing the buck and not letting us know how this money was spent," he said.
The three wanted to know why the CID was yet to file a case into the burning of answer scripts of HSLC students in Sankardev Seminary High School on March 4 here.
"The arrests of a peon and a night watchman were made on the basis of an FIR filed by the principal of the school, who is herself under the scanner, at Jorhat police station. The CID has only conducted an inquiry. We want to know what evidence the CID has found and how far the investigation has progressed," Goswami said.
Another demand is the transfer of additional deputy commissioners (ADCs) Bubul Lekharu and Pradip Das as well as Pulibar officer-in-charge Rishikesh Hazarika. The ADCs were posted in the same district for more than three years while the OC was posted in his home constituency during election time, flouting norms.
The three petitioners informed the Election Commission about this.
The deputy commissioner was asked to give a reply. He said the ADCs were engaged in NRC work.
