A Silchar head post office agent for savings scheme has been arrested on charges of swindling depositors to the tune of Rs 35 lakh in the past two years. Dhananjoy Malakar has been booked under sections 447, 420 and 471 of the IPC. The senior postmaster of Silchar has ordered a departmental probe into the incident. Malakar had unsuccessfully contested the last municipal elections as an Independent. Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents in Barak Valley. Ranadhir Chakravarthy, 15, died when he came in contact with hanging overhead wires at Malini Bheel in Silchar.
