Trucks seized

Jorhat, July 10: A team, led by Titabar sub-divisional officer (civil) Manvendra Singh, today seized two trucks from the bank of Bhogdoi river along Dhodar Ali, off Mariani town, in the district as some people were trying to illegally extract sand and gravel from the area and load them on the vehicles. Such activities are not allowed as the area is adjacent to Gibbon wildlife sanctuary. A case has been registered at Mariani police station.

Rebel killed

Imphal (PTI): A militant was killed by the 11 Assam Rifles in the early hours of Thursday on the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur's Chandel district, police said on Friday. A .32 pistol and two landmines were recovered.

Rubber boats

Jorhat: The Assam Disaster Management Authority has dispatched six inflatable rubber boats to Jorhat district to be used for rescue during floods. There are three such boats in the district.

Man dies

Jorhat: Puneshwar Chetia, 30, a resident of Doomar Dalang in Dibrugarh district, on Friday reportedly died after consuming poison. Police investigation is on.

Inaugurated

Jorhat: Lok Sabha MP (Jorhat) K.P. Tasa on Friday inaugurated the new building of Fisheries Research Centre at the Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat campus, on National Fish Farmers' Day.

Youth held

Jorhat: A youth, identified as Rituraj, was arrested by Sivasagar police on Friday when he along with three others had come to a private nursing home in Sivasagar allegedly to extort money in the name of Ulfa (I). The other three managed to flee from the spot.
