Agartala, June 14: The Bimal Sinha murder case has become murkier with reports of Bangladesh police trying to hush up the arrest of the prime accused, NLFT commander Rajkanta Debbarma.
Sources in the special branch (intelligence wing) of police said they had received reports that Rajkanta, who has been chargesheeted in the former Tripura health minister?s murder case, has been remanded in 14 days? judicial custody by a subdivisional magistrate?s court in Maulvi Bazar district of Bangladesh.
Rajkanta was arrested following a raid on the Puranbarki hideout of NLFT in Bangladesh by the Rapid Action Battalion on May 27. Six NLFT rebels died in the ensuing encounter.
?The names and addresses of the six militants, including Rajkanta, in police custody have not been properly recorded. They have been merely identified as unknown miscreants,? a source said, adding that Maulvi Bazar police even changed Rajkanta?s name to Sunil in their records.
Sources said before submitting records in court, Maulvi Bazar police interrogated Rajkanta?s wife Kajalrekha for a few hours. However, no mention was made of the information elicited from her in the records submitted in the sub-divisional magistrate?s court.
The sources said the occasional raids made by Bangladesh security forces on anti-Indian militant hideouts were nothing but an eyewash to ward off adverse criticism from India and the international community.
?Whenever Bangladesh Rifles or other forces feel that they have not been adequately paid, they pretend to raid the hideouts and make sporadic arrests. However, the arrested militants easily find their way out unharmed,? a source said.
