Guwahati, Aug. 25: NF Railway SC have only themselves to blame for the 2-3 loss to defending champions Navajyoti Club in a match of RG Baruah Guwahati Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here today.
While the railmen looked a bit disoriented since the beginning of the match, the Navajyoti men kept their composure and continued with their efforts to earn a win.
In the 22nd minute, however, the railmen scored their first goal. After a foul near the box, the railmen were awarded a free-kick, on the right flank.
Jelendra Brahma, who was inside the box, received Sibra Narzary's free-kick and wasted no time to send it home.
K. Lalchhanhima, however, equalised in the 40th minute carrying the ball from the left flank and shooting it in from near the woodwork off a pass from Manjit Rabha.
Five minutes later, Navajyoti's Nigerian recruit Nwokwu Michael Okwudili scored the second goal for the team, thanks to the railmen's defence lapse. Okwudili, intercepting a misspass from the railmen, carried the ball to the left flank and shot in from near the goal.
In the second half, Sibra Narzary took a powerful right-footer shot from the midfield that flew above the defenders, but custodian Subojit Barman anticipated well to punch it out.
Sankar Sil netted the equaliser for the railmen in the 63rd minute with a header off Sibra's corner kick from the left flank.
In the 85th minute, a right-footed shot by Wungranchan P.S. found the back of the net off Laltansanga's corner kick for Navajyoti's winning goal.
Tomorrow, Gauhati Town Club will meet Sunrise AC.
Challenger League: Central Assam Zone will meet Northern Assam Zone at NF Railway Stadium here, while Upper Assam will clash with Headquarters Zone at Judges Field here in the three-day semi-finals of the Assam Challenger League Cricket Tournament from Friday.
