Kohima, Sept. 6: The president of the Nagaland unit of the BJP is unlikely to change when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visits the state on October 28.

The Prime Minister’s date for the visit, however, is “tentative”.

The party unit has named its president Mozamo Ngullie as the consensus candidate for another tenure in the post.

The elections for the president and other office-bearers are slated for the first week of October, state co-ordinator Avinash Kohli said. Party polls for district presidents will be held in the following weeks. The state executive meeting of the party will be held on September 15.

The party in-charge for Northeast, V. Satish, will meet the chief minister, the seven BJP legislators in the state and the office-bearers in separate meetings, Kohli said.

However, according to sources, the party’s constitution may not allow Ngullie’s appointment to the post as he has not completed two years as an organising secretary. However, state unit general secretary Ato Yepthomi argued that “when we are doing things the consensus way, it should not matter”. He said the Prime Minister will inaugurate some projects.
