Aizawl, Jan. 24: The Mizoram government today announced a slew of measures to improve communication in the state.
Local administration minister H. Vanlalauva said the construction of Khatla flyover would begin soon and the government has taken an initiative to begin work on the Aizawl underground tunnels as soon as the results of the technical survey are revealed.
Vanlalauva said flyovers and tunnels are the best way to ease traffic congestion in the city.
?The city?s roads cannot be widened as large portions of private land will be affected. So the government has decided to construct flyovers and underground tunnels, which are the only possible ways to solve the increasing traffic problems in the city,? the minister said.
On the delay in the Khatla flyover project, Vanlalauva said if the initial plan was executed, it would affect a large portion of private lands, which would require a lot of compensation. ?That was why the government worked out a fresh plan on the project,? he said, adding, ?The Khatla village council has no objection to the project.? The minister said the foundation for the car-parking project proposed recently would be laid before the monsoons.
?The project committee has selected 14 contractors for parking projects at Bawngkawn, Ramhlun N., Ramhlun Venglai, Ramhlun S., Chanmari, Zarkawt, Dawrpui, Temple Square, Khatla Kawn, Bungkawn, Venglai, Sikulpuikawn and Kulikawn localities,? he said.
The minister said a car park would be constructed at Lunglei, the second biggest town of the state after Aizawl.
AGP accusation
Assam Opposition Asom Gana Parishad on Monday accused the Tarun Gogoi-led government of shielding some of its ministers, who allegedly had links with the Ulfa, and claimed the party had ?documentary evidence? to prove it, reports PTI.
The party has sent a memorandum with the ?evidence? to the office of the President, the Prime Minister and the home ministry, AGP general secretary Dilip Saikia said.
