SENIOR DIVISION FOOTBALL
Dibrugarh, July 12: Milan Jyoti Sangha edged past Jalan Nagar Tea Estate Football Club 1-0 in a league encounter of the first Monuj Patra and Boga Das Senior Division Football Tournament organised by Dibrugarh District Sports Association at the DDSA stadium here today.
After a rather quiet phase of play, it was Milan Jyoti who opened the account with midfielder Jiten Karmakar catching the custodian on the wrong foot to find the back of the net in the 30th minute.
The first half was dominated by Milan Jyoti with Jalan Nagar finding it hard to penetrate the opposition's defence.
At the lemon break, Milan Jyoti held on to their slender lead.
Early into the second half, Milan Jyoti would have extended their goal margin but for some missed opportunities. Both the teams toiled hard in the heat to go one up on the other.
Down 0-1,Jalan Nagar tried to regroup in the last 15 minutes and despite lifting their game with a number of shots at the goal, lack of direction and power deprived them of an equaliser.
Maradona Marandi of Jalan TE was shown the door by the referee for unruly behaviour in the field. He was booked with a red card in the 75th minute.
Jiten Karmakar of Milan Jyoti was adjudged Man of the Match.
Tomorrow, Dibrugarh Railway Divisional Sports Club will lock horns with Tengakhat Anchalik Sonowal Kachari Students' Union Football Club.
Eleven teams are taking part in the tournament.
