Manipur Hockey in last four

Manipur Hockey moved into the semi-finals beating Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 4-3 goals in the sixth Hockey India Sub-Junior Men's National Championship (Division A) played at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium here today.

Imphal, May 17: Manipur Hockey moved into the semi-finals beating Uttar Pradesh Hockey by 4-3 goals in the sixth Hockey India Sub-Junior Men's National Championship (Division A) played at Khuman Lampak hockey stadium here today.

This is the host team's second win, emerging as Pool-A winner with seven points.

Manipur Hockey took the lead in the 13th minute when Rabichandra Moirangthem hammered the ball into the goal from a penalty corner. However, Uttar Pradesh Hockey replied positively when Amit Yadav scored in the 19th minute to level the score.

Uttar Pradesh Hockey took the lead when Amit Yadav came up with his second goal from a field effort in the 21st minute. But Manipur Hockey jumped back into the game when Rabichandra Moirangthem struck his team's second goal in the 24th minute to make it 2-2. Uttar Pradesh Hockey again went ahead when Amod Kumar scored in the 34th minute.

Playing before their home crowd, Manipur Hockey struck back when Ibungo Kongjengbam fetched the equaliser in the 57th minute and Rabichandra Kongjengbam struck the winning goal in the 63rd minute for the victory.

In the other matches of the day, Hockey Odisha defeated Hockey Patiala by 2-1 goals while Hockey Punjab beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu by 5-2 goals and Hockey Chandigarh thrashed Hockey Haryana by 13-0 goals.

Football: BOFC Heirok beat HISU Thoubal by 2-1 goals in the second District-level Open Seven-a-Side Football Tournament played at Thoubal. In tomorrow's match, AFA Thoubal will take on SYSDO (A).
