Imphal, Sept. 24: Steered by O. Somorjit’s winning shots, YCWO Heinoubok won the Imphal West District Football Association’s second division football league defeating SKYC 3-1 at the SAI ground in Takyel.

YCWO opened their account through striker L. Ibobi in the 22nd minute, taking advantage of a goalmouth melee.

SKYC fought back and found the equaliser in the 30th minute through Ramesh’s header. At the break, the score read 1-1.

YCWO displayed good teamwork when the match resumed after the break with striker Somorjit sealing the fate of SKYC with two beautifully executed gaols.

Somorjit found the net in the 39th minute, off a long clearance, while he hit the nails on the SKYC coffin in the 50th minute through a shot that rolled in to completely befuddle the rival goalie.

Girls win: Manipur girls outshone the boys in the 14th inter-zonal junior athletics meet at Salt Lake stadium in Calcutta from September 16 to 18.

Of the 17 medals contributed by the Manipur players to the East Zone’s medal tally, the state’s girls accounted for 15.

Manipur athletes representing East Zone bagged three gold medals, 10 silvers and four bronzes.
