Dibrugarh, Jan. 4: Jorhat Cricket Coaching Centre defeated Tinsukia Railway Divisional Sports Club by two wickets to clinch the champion’s title of the 5th Nandadhar Bordoloi Invitational Prize-Money Cricket Tournament at Margherita Public High School playground today.
Jorhat won the toss and invited Tinsukia Railways to bat. Tinsukia were bundled out for 101 in 24.5 overs.
Dipen Mahanta made 20 while Suraj Dutta and Anit Agarwal contributed 13 runs each. For Jorhat, medium pacers Sanjib Prasad and Ritesh Paul took three wickets each while Uddipta Buragohain took two for 14. Jorhat reached their target, scoring 103 in 22.1 overs, losing eight wickets. Man of the Final Man Pratim Borthakur made 29 while Prabal Borkotoky scored 16. Pargat Bora contributed 13 while Parthib Hazarika scored 10.
For the railwaymen, left- arm medium pacer Bimal Goswami and off-spinner Salim Ahmed took two wickets each. Dipen Mahanta was named Best Batsman of the final. Left-arm seamer Rameswar Das, who took seven wickets from four matches, was declared Best Bowler of the Tournament while Pathib Hazarika bagged the Best Fielder award.
Bijon Dutta of Tinsukia Railways was named Man of the Series and the Best Batsman. Special awards were given to Bijon Dutta and Dipen Mahanta, of Tinsukia Railways, for hitting the highest number of sixes. The Fair Play trophy went to Tinsukia Railways while Raju Seal of Margherita Cricket Academy was given the Best Upcoming Player award. State power and industry minister Pradyut Bordoloi handed over the champion’s trophy and Rs 50,000 to the winners.
