Agartala, July 8: Irregularities in evaluation of answer scripts during the Tripura joint entrance examination were brought to the notice of Gauhati High Court yesterday, after some of the students moved the court for redress.

After the results were declared on June 7, many meritorious students found their names missing from the merit list. A series of applications under the RTI followed but the board employees initially avoided showing answer scripts on the grounds that all answer scripts were in Calcutta. When the answer scripts were finally shown to the applicants, many found their papers were under-marked and in many cases correct answers had been marked wrong.

A candidate, Vaishali Paul, found even though she had obtained 226 marks out of 300 and should be placed in 53rd position, her name was missing from the merit list. She along with Papiya Das and Padmini Debbarma, moved the Agartala bench of the high court. During the hearing, Justice Shubhasish Talapatra directed the forensic examination of Vaishali’s answer script and directed the board to set aside three MBBS seats for counselling later. Accordingly, the TBJEE authority organised counselling for the remaining 85 MBBS seats.

Lashing out at the irregularities committed by the board, Vaishali’s father, Ratan Paul said, “There was absolutely no transparency in the entire matter. He described the merit list as a “political list” wherein only candidates belonging to families of the ruling party supporters were accommodated.
