Guwahati, Feb. 9: Hosts Guwahati emerged overall champions with a total of 91 medals, including 28 gold, 22 silver and 21 bronze medals, in the T.G. Baruah State Karate-Do Championship, which concluded at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here yesterday.

Jorhat, with a total of 25 medals, including six gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals, occupied the second place, followed by Dibrugarh in the third spot with a total of 21 medals.

Local lad Jyotishman Kashyap was adjudged the Best Player in the 10-16 boys' age category.

Mehnaz Yashmin of Sonitpur walked away with the top honours in the girls' category. Ashwini Teron of Guwahati was named the Best Player in the 14-17 boys' age category. Janki Devi of Guwahati received the top honour in the girls' category.

Veteran's cricket

Cyclone Thangmeiband posted a five-wicket win over Model Club Chingamakha in the third T-20 Manipur Veteran Cricket Tournament 2014-15 at Langthabal Public Cricket Ground today, reports our sports correspondent from Imphal.

Model Club rode Chaoba Singh's 40 runs to put up 139 for 10 wickets from 20 overs.

Cherish Singh chipped in with 26 runs.

Cyclone bowler Rajesh Singh was the most successful bowler, picking up four wickets.

In reply, Cyclone Thangmeiband reached the target losing five wickets from 19.3 overs with Roben Singh making an unbeaten 31 runs to guide his team to victory.

Thoithoi and Mobi Singh hit 24 runs each. Cyclone bowler Rajesh Singh got the Man of the Match award for his four-wicket haul.
