Guwahati, Dec. 16: Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati and Programme Production Centre, Northeast, have received as many as five Doordarshan National Awards for 2006.

The recipients of the awards are deputy director general, northeastern region, V. Sekhose, director (news) Doordarshan Kendra Guwahati, Ramani Malakar, and producers Manabendra Barua, Mukul Talukdar and Sabita Rani Debi.

Sekhose received the award for flawless commissioning and overall administration, while Malakar bagged the award for the best regional news unit for North East Statescan. The awards were given away at a function in Jalandhar last month.

Barua’s Karbi Anglong — Bleeding Heart received the best programme award in the news and current affairs category. Talukdar received the best programme award in the wildlife and environment category for his documentary Man Water and Bird.

While Debi of PPC, Northeast, received the best children’s programme award for Four Stories.
