Dhubri, Oct. 14: Revellers will have a tough time pandal-hopping with a slew of restrictions on the movement of bikes, autorickshaws and cars in the town between October 19 and 23, not to mention negotiating the most deplorable of roads in the state.
But all these odds are unlikely to deter them from visiting the replica of Ramoji Film City of Hyderabad put up by Sabuj Sangha, naba rupas of Durga by Marwari Sarbajanin Durga Puja Celebration Committee, the golden jubilee celebrations of Vivekananda Club and a huge pandal decorated with earthen utensils put up by Ward 3 Community Puja.
Altogether 101 community Pujas will be held in Dhubri this time, three more than the previous year.
Sabuj Sangha, one of the oldest Puja organisers of town, are putting up a replica of Ramoji Film City of Hyderabad with a riot# of colours and lighting.
Asked about the preparations, the president of Sabuj Sangha, Probir Sircar, said like every year, they have planned something big to attract the revellers from other parts of district.
Sircar added that Phukan Bain, a local artist, was erecting the replica of Ramoji Film City's gate that is huge in size and costs around Rs 5 lakh.
"The site of our pandal - Raja Prabhat Chandra Baruah Maidan - is pretty big. So if we construct something small, it will look puny on the field and not attract many visitors. Residents of greater Dhubri have great expectations as our club always presented new and innovative decorations and lighting concepts since its inception here," Sircar added.
He said a booklet would be released on the history of Sabuj Sangha Puja this year written by Sambhu Nandi.
In the Balurchar area, ward 3 Puja organisers are putting up a pandal with earthen utensils right from bowls and plates to urns.
"The decorations of our pandal always have a theme and like the previous year, this time, too, there is no exception to that. We are erecting a pandal with locally available terracotta, where three artisans of our locality - Subhankar Paul, Prakash Roy and Gaurav Kundu, are working day and night to complete the pandal with vivid colours while the lighting is done by Sasthi," Ashish Ghose, president of the committee, said.
The president of Marwari Community Puja Celebration Committee, Padam Dhanawat, while explaining the importance of naba rupa of Durga, said this is the first time any community Puja organiser of the town is putting up nine postures of the goddess under one roof.
"We hope devotees and revellers will like this as they will have a glimpse of nabaratra (nine-day ritual) at our Agrasen Bhawan," Dhanawat said.
Vivekananda Club is also celebrating its golden jubilee with innovative decorations and activities.
