Dibrugarh girls blank Rangia

Nagaon, July 31: Last year’s semifinalists Dibrugarh blanked Rangia 3-0 in the third quarterfinal of the 6th Junior (under-19) girls’ inter-district football championship at Karbi Anglong Sports Association ground in Diphu today.

Dibrugarh led by a solitary goal till the end of the first half.

Rangia captain Lovita Kumari and midfielder Sangita Boro missed two opportunities in the fifth and seventh minutes of the match.

Dibrugarh’s first goal came in the 44th minute when striker Rina Murari passed the ball to right-out Minakshi Sonowal who made no mistake in converting it. In the 51st minute, Rangia’s Ringkhangsri Boro gave a pass to midfielder Sangita, but Dibrugarh captain Purnima Das intercepted the ball. Sangita missed two more chances in the 58th and 64th minutes. In the 55th minute, Rina Murari captured the ball from Rangia captain Lovita Kumari and passed it freely to Minakshi Ghatowar, who scored the second goal through a shot from the midfield. A free kick by Purnima Das brought the third goal for Dibrugarh in the 75th minute.

Rangia striker Manju Kalita was cautioned with a yellow card in the 65th minute.

Dibrugarh entered the quarters directly, while Rangia defeated Hailakandi 7-0 in a first-round match on July 26.

Defending champions Charaideo crushed Udalguri 14-0 in the first quarterfinal on Sunday and hosts Karbi Anglong drubbed Bokakhat 7-0 in the second quarterfinal yesterday. Silchar will meet Sivasagar tomorrow.
