Guwahati, March 7: Dainik Batori posted a comfortable five-wicket win over Prasar Bharati at Latasil Ground today to move into the quarterfinals of the ninth Guwahati Press Club inter-media cricket tournament.
For Prag News, victory was even sweeter as they left The Telegraph behind by a huge 211-run margin in the other Group-B match today.
In the afternoon match, Prasar Bharati elected to bat but were bundled out for 90 runs in 19 overs. Dainik Batori reached 96 for five in 12.1 overs. Gautam Sarma topscored for Prasar Bharati with 19 runs, while Nekib Ahmed remained unbeaten on 17.
Rafiquddin Ahmed was the highest wicket-taker for Dainik Batori, notching three for 18, while Rajpal Saikia and Manabendra Sarma shared two wickets each, conceding seven and 18 runs respectively. Rafiquddin Ahmed also topscored for Dainik Batori with 41 runs coming off his blade. Biki Bharali contributed 23.
Swagata Das of Prasar Bharati claimed three wickets for 22 runs and Gautam Sarma captured one for 12.
The match saw Prasar Bharati accusing their opponents of fielding a team comprising non-employee professional cricketers. It was also alleged that at least two under-15 players were playing for Dainik Batori when service rules do not allow the employment of youths below the age of 18.
In the earlier match, a professionals-studded Prag News elected to bat and piled up a mammoth total of 285 for four in 20 overs, with two of their batsmen cracking the first centuries of the meet. Sanjeev Narain topscored with 121 while Naba Kalita piled up 110.
Medium pacers Sidhartha Sarma and Arun Dhar shared two wickets each for The Telegraph, giving away 38 and 47 runs respectively.
The Telegraph innings folded with just 74 runs on the board in 16 overs. Runjun Gogoi (15) and Supradip Bhattacharjee (10) were the only batsmen to score in double figures. Robin Das, Pranoy Bordoloi and Binoy Kalita shared two wickets each for Prag News.
