Barak edge past Kalain, lift trophy

Barak Chanaralup annexed the title of the Samayik Prasanga Cup Women's Football Championship, organised by the Silchar District Sports Association in collaboration with the Samayik Prasanga, defeating Kalain Sports Academy 1-0 at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar last evening.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL

Hailakandi, May 17: Barak Chanaralup annexed the title of the Samayik Prasanga Cup Women's Football Championship, organised by the Silchar District Sports Association in collaboration with the Samayik Prasanga, defeating Kalain Sports Academy 1-0 at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar last evening.

The winning goal was scored by Dayabati Singha in the 67th minute through a counter-attack.

Kalain displayed exceptional football skills in the first half but failed to score.

In the second half, Barak Chanaralup went on the offensive.

In the 42nd minute, Kalain's Amrita Devi failed to ruffle an unguarded net when goalkeeper Elvin Hmar was beaten outside the box.

Kalain's key player Mithila Bhumij failed to rise to the occasion.

Barak Chanaralup's Sunanda Chanu, Sangita Singha, Sahina Parvin Barbhuiya and Firthanpui Hmar were named Best Defender, Best Midfielder, Best Forward and Best Player of the championship respectively.

Elvin Hmar of Barak Chanaralup was named Best Goalkeeper of the championship. Kalain's Lovely Goala was adjudged Woman of the Final.

The prizes, including the prize money, were distributed by Silchar MP Sushmita Dev, chief editor-cum-proprietor of the Samayik Prasanga Taimur Raja Choudhury, DSA president and secretary Badal Dey and Babul Hore respectively, former Fifa referee Mrinal Kanti Roy, Rotary Club members S.B. Dutta, Arijit Endow and Benulal Barman, district sports officer of Cachar Khanindra Mudoi and others.

Sports department: The Manipur youth affairs & sports department has informed state sportspersons, who had won medals in the 12th South Asian Games, 2016, held inGuwahati and Shillong, to collect the forms for consideration of NEC Chairman's Sports Award and submit the same before May 25.
