Badminton meet in December

Kokrajhar, Nov. 18: The third Kamleswar Brahma Memorial all-India Open Badminton Championship, 2014 will be held on December 13 and 14 at Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) indoor stadium.

Organised under the aegis of the Kokrajhar District Badminton Association, the championship will be held for open men’s, women’s doubles and veteran’s doubles (above-35 years).

The total prize money will be Rs 2 lakh with Rs 50,000 for open men’s, Rs 25,000 for women’s doubles and Rs 35,000 for veteran’s doubles.

The runners-ups will get Rs 30,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.

The third position holders in each category will receive Rs 6,000 each.

The organisers are expecting around 200 players from Assam and the other states, comprising players holding national ranks.

The championship is sponsored by Manaranjan Brahma in the memory of his father late Kamaleswar Brahma.

The badminton association’s president, Ghanashyam Basumatary, requested the interested players to contact the organising committees for entry of names at 9435026668 and 9954804205.

Free coaching camp: A free badminton coaching camp is being held every Saturday and Sunday at the indoor stadium for children from 4-15 years of age.

The Kokrajhar District Badminton Association (KDBA) has requested interested children to contact the association.

Rowing: Nafisa Sadiq of Guwahati won a gold medal for Assam in the single scull event of the 35th Junior National Rowing Championship held at Lucknow from November 10 to 16.
