Guwahati, April 28: Assam Governor Shiv Charan Mathur was admitted to the army hospital at Basistha early this morning after he complained of chest pain.

The doctors attending him said Mathur responded well to medication and his condition was stable but he was kept in the ICU for better monitoring.

Raj Bhavan sources said the governor felt unwell last night and complained of chest pain around 4.30am.

A team of five doctors headed by noted cardiologist Anjan Bhattacharya attended on him. Bhattacharya advised that the governor be shifted to the hospital around 9.30am, when his condition did not show any improvement.

“As he is on a pacemaker, the doctor did not take a chance and admitted him to the hospital,” a Raj Bhavan source said.

The governor cancelled an official meeting but was confident of resuming work within a day or two.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi was among the first to call on the governor to wish him a quick recovery.
