Barpeta: Fourteen people were hurt in a road accident on NH 31 near Howly in Barpeta district.

According to sources, a speeding bus collided head on with a Winger, on its away to Guwahati from Kalgachia, around 11am.

The 14 injured were travelling in the Winger. They have been admitted to Barpeta Medical College and Hospital . The condition of two was critical and they was referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Azad Ali, one of the injured, said, "The Winger was on the right lane of the highway but the bus was not."

Barpeta hospital superintendent Bobijit Goswami said, "We are taking care of the injured persons and most of them are in a stable condition."

Goswami, however, said, "Two were referred to the GMCH. One was sent soon after admission while the other was referred at 3pm."

No arrests have been made.
