Hochheta Ki?

The comedy of errors starring Prosenjit, Arunima and Pauli has entered the second week, riding the semi-urban crowd.

Budget: Rs 60 lakh-plus.

Directorspeak: “The film upholds middle-class values,” says Basu Chatterjee.

We liked: Chatterjee’s signature cine comedy — creating humour out of everyday situations.

We didn’t like: The slow pace and storyline (it’s a rehashed plot with bits and pieces from Chatterjee’s earlier films).

Aamar Pratigya

Just like any other Swapan Saha film, this is picking up with word-of-mouth publicity from Week Two.

Budget: Rs 1 crore.

Actorspeak: “It’s very much a Swapanda film,” says main man Priyanshu.

We liked: Hot bod Priyanshu and his hot item number with Rituparna Sengupta. Also, the pretty Priyanka Trivedi.

We didn’t like: The same ol’ love-and-revenge saga of an angry young man and the accompanying melodrama.

Tollylights

A spate of Holly releases has knocked out Arjun Chakraborty’s directorial debut from most plexes. One show at INOX (City Centre) is all it’s got.

Budget: Rs 65 lakh.

Directorspeak: Tollylights is for all kinds of audiences — the masses and the classes,” says Arjun.

We liked: The juicy stories about tinsel town and Arjun’s performance.

We didn’t like: Sreelekha Mitra in western outfits and her raunchy act in Chalo kheli aaj love game.

Jor

The first film to roll out of Swapan Saha’s factory in 2008 has crossed seven weeks. Cheers!

Budget: Rs 1.25 crore

Producerspeak: “We expected better collection in the fifth week, but Jor has done better than the other Jeet films released recently,” says Raju Das of T. Sarkar Productions.

We liked: Jeet’s brawn and Varsha Priyadarshini’s beauty. The colourful outdoors that are a relief from the drab Tollygunge studios.

We didn’t like: The meandering storyline that’s so difficult to keep track of.
