His style is effortless, his attitude oh-so-cool. t2 caught up with TV star and youth icon Rannvijay Singh Singha when he was in town recently. What we spoke about? The swag star’s fashion fix and style picks.

You manage to make everything you wear look good. What’s the secret?
Guys should wear things that they can carry. People tend to get carried away by what they feel is trendy. I don’t follow trends. I actually don’t know what the new trend is. Sometimes I get calls from fashion magazines that I started a trend! On Splitsvilla 8 (MTV), I wore shorts with a blazer! A lot of things that Salman Bhai (Khan) wears, nobody else can pull off. A lot of things that Akshay Sir (Kumar) wears, nobody can... that’s because he has a certain body language.

What does your wardrobe say about your personality?
That I am a maverick! (Smiles) I have a lot of formal shoes, formal shirts, T-shirts, cargo pants, jeans, trousers and pyjamas. When you look at my wardrobe, you will never be able to guess what I am going to wear next!

How has your style evolved over the years?
Likes and dislikes change according to time. When we were young, we wore only sporty stuff. Once we were back from school, we only wore shorts and T-shirts. I like sports shoes, but I wear loafers too. Style evolves with age and interests. There was a time when, if I had to go for a brunch, I would go in shorts and a white shirt. Now I may wear a white shirt with trousers. It keeps changing... it comes naturally.

Do you shop alone or with your wife, Prianka?
I have stopped shopping! Even four to five years ago, I used to shop a lot whenever I would go abroad. Now, my wife picks up things. Whatever I wear, she has to be okay about it. I have things in my wardrobe that she doesn’t like and so I have subconsciously reduced wearing those things. She messages me pictures of clothes and I just choose.

Are you a brand loyalist?
I am not until and unless I am endorsing something. Actually, you will never see me wearing something that spells the brand out. I don’t like that. I pick up stuff from the streets more than shops.

What’s your favourite classic look?
Ripped jeans with a white or a black shirt. Anytime you are confused, just wear that!

What should a guy wear to a first date?
I never dressed up for a date. I wore what I liked. So if a boy is going out for a date during Durga Puja, he can wear a nice, plain, well-fitted kurta and pyjama. One should dress for the occasion. It keeps one interested in his wardrobe.

Do you shop online?
I did buy a lot of furniture for my house. I buy frisbees, boomerangs and throwing knives. I am more of an activity person than a what-to-wear person!

Are you fussy about your hair?
I don’t care! My hair is just growing from everywhere! (Laughs) But I generally keep it short so that it looks clean. I am not fussy about anything.

Not even about your cologne or perfume?
I like Aqva by Bvlgari, Dark Blue by Hugo Boss and Game by Davidoff.

What’s your comfort wear?
Track pants, T-shirt and sports shoes. And if it’s cold, then a jumper with it.

How many pairs of shoes do you have?
Over 150!

And how many G-Shock watches?
I don’t count. I guess, almost 25 to 30! I endorse them.

HIS STYLIST

Basically, I don’t have to do work much because Rannvijay can pretty much carry off anything. I have worked with him for the last seven years for films, TV shows and commercials. He never throws a fuss except that he doesn’t like to wear green and brown. His style is a bit more rugged than prim and proper. He even looks nice in Indian wear. He manages to carry colours really well. I have made him wear ridiculous things! Maybe it looks odd on somebody else but I can experiment with him. Both of us sit and decide the looks. If he likes something, I incorporate it. We work as a team. He is crazy about shoes. He has a garage full of shoes!

RANNVIJAY DECODES HIS LOOK, FOR T2
I am a big shoe person. These days, I mostly wear Air Jordan. These are my new acquisitions. I am wearing beige pants either from Jack & Jones or Zara because I have beige pants from both. This T-shirt is from a local boutique in London. This watch is from G-Shock and this cool shirt is from Bhane.

RANNVIJAY’s DATING TIPS...
Good manners, basic etiquette, good sense of humour and intelligence go much further than good looks. Don’t be
self-centred, guys!

HIS STYLE ICONS
Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar. From Maine Pyar Kiya to Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Bhai’s style has changed. And, Akshay Sir’s long hair to short crop... he even pulls off the turban in Singh Is Bliing. I like these guys because of their attitude.
