As far as tributes go, this one was really special. Pujo Te Pancham, held in association with t2 at Kala Mandir last Friday, was a tribute to the legendary composer RD Burman.
Organised by Euphony, the concert — featuring musicians like guitarist Ramesh Iyer, trumpet player Kishore Sodha, sitarist Rahul Chatterjee, the Violin Brothers and other musicians — brought back the golden era of Bollywood music.
The evening started with Iyer playing Tum aa gaye ho from Aandhi on his guitar, followed by Rahul’s Deke deke koto from one of Pancham’s Puja albums. The next song Ga pa ga re sa was by Sodha. This song was from the last RD Burman-Asha Bhosle Puja album released by HMV.
“When we worked with Panchamda, every day was special. Every day was a new challenge... he would just touch the harmonium keys and a new song would emerge,” said Iyer, who has played several guitar pieces in Burman’s songs since 1978.
Before every Puja, RD would release an album. “Dada used to be very excited about the Pujas. Songs that came out during the Pujas became such a hit that he used some of those songs in films,” said Sodha.
Iyer and Sodha are regulars at Euphony concerts. “The Calcutta audience is so good. I used to come here with Lataji (Mangeshkar) and Ashaji (Bhosle),” added Sodha.
The musicians also performed songs like Jete dao amay, Bolo ki achhe go, Aisa kabhi hua nahi from Yeh Vaada Raha, Aaro kacha kachi from Troyee, and Kya jaanu sajan from Baharon Ke Sapne.
“We are reliving Pancham hits with his fans in Calcutta. We are doing this just out of passion,” said Ashis Ghatak, a member of Euphony.

Surily Goel on styling Mallika Sherawat
![]() |
Designer and stylist Surily Goel spoke to t2 about dressing Mallika Sherawat for the Murder actress’s reality show The Bachelorette India that goes on air on October 7 (Monday to Friday at 9.30pm) on Life OK.
What will we get to see Mallika Sherawat in?
There are 65 changes. From the first episode till the last one, she is wearing a lot of different designers. I’ve given her a lot of Anarkalis and also gowns depending on the settings and occasions. I’ve used labels that almost every fashionista would be familiar with and also chosen some new designers. None of the looks are OTT or too revealing.
What do you think of Mallika’s personal style?
Mallika has a great sense of style. She is well-travelled, she knows her body and also what colours work and don’t work for her. She doesn’t like very high necklines or black. Warm colours like yellow and pink, and also white, work for her. Despite the fact that she now lives in LA and her wardrobe is significantly influenced by western trends, she also wears a lot of Indian designs. She is very open to new ideas. She has a dedicated hair and make-up artist who is with her round-the-clock — something most Hollywood stars are known to have — and he is doing a fantastic job. She’s taking all the right steps to put herself out there.
What do you think Mallika looks best in?
She has a great body and anything she wears looks good on her, really. However, Mallika looks best in a sari. She has an amazing torso and a sari highlights her shapely and toned torso like nothing else.
What are you working on next?
I’m busy rounding up my new collection which comes out later this month. I’m also showcasing my resort fashion at the India Resortwear Fashion Week.
