DAY: Topknot swirl

Don starts with a simple high ponytail, leaving out a “square section” of the crown area. He divides it into three parts and teases it for some volume. “The reason I do the square section is because I want to adjust the height. If you have a longer face, you can add a bit more volume. Rukmini has a nice, oval face. So, I don’t need to give her too much volume. For people who have a slightly heavier face, the volume gives the face more structure,” says Don (picture left), in between pinning all three sections up with the ponytail. With the crown taken care of, he teases the ponytail, rolls it and pins it into a bun.

Top tip: “It’s simple and easy. It keeps the hair off the face. And it’s very stylish. The high topknot is very in fashion right now. Time needed? Less than five minutes,” says Don.

Model speak: “What I like about this hairstyle is that it doesn’t really matter if you have thick or scanty hair. After a shoot or a show, you tend to scrunch up your whole hair. This is a little neater. It keeps the hair off the face and I can wear my shades. I don’t need any make-up with this. It looks so classy. It is both casual and elegant,” smiles Rukmini.

Night: Side-sweep-out curls

This is an easy look. Don just iron-curls one part of the hair and pins up the rest for this glam one-sided look. “From the mid-section of the length, press the iron and do a 360-degree twirl with the iron at the ends. I am keeping the iron four to five inches away from the roots because I want the curls only from the ends and not the roots,” he says.

Top tip: “It’s a perfect night look because it is easy and you can do it yourself. Also, you are just doing half the hair and the other half you are pinning up. So, quick fix! It’s iron curls, so you can run your fingers through it. There is no back-combing. There is no hairspray. You can play with your hair. The messier it is on the other side, the more it adds structure and character to the look,” says Don.

Model speak: “I think it is really glam but at the same time, it is really easy to do like the day look. It’s half the effort actually. If I want, I can apply some mousse and scrunch it a little. It also frames the face and it is a lovely look. I’d probably try it a lot now!” smiles Rukmini, in between clicking some selfies.
