Patna, Dec. 29: Partying is fine this New Year Eve. Overdoing is not. Prying eyes of police would be on every reveller to ensure peaceful celebrations.

With citizens getting ready to wear their party shoes and hit the dance floor, the district magistrate (DM) has ordered deploying adequate police force and magistrates (additional collector-rank officials) at parks, hotels, bars and even Patna zoo.

“Over 40 magistrates will be deployed at all prominent parks like Rajdhani Vatika near the secretariat, Kumhrar Park, diara on the banks of the Ganga and the zoo. People gather at these places in large numbers, so at least four to six magistrates will be deputed in each park inside and outside,” said Patna DM Sanjay Kumar Singh.

He added: “Special attention will be given to the zoo as people flock there in large numbers. Apart from the magistrate, police personnel will be deputed at the gates. The men in uniform will also be deployed near the pond and canteen.”

A couple of days before the D-Day, the police have stepped up patrolling.

“All police stations have been instructed to be on alert and concentrate on patrolling. Many hotels and clubs will be organising events on the last day of the year. The list of events has been sought from them for making adequate security arrangements. The leaves of the police personnel have been cancelled for now. Women cops in civil dress will be deputed to handle eve-teasers and troublemongers. The police will be very strict on those drinking in public and creating scenes under the influence of alcohol,” Patna senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar said.

The DM said there would be special patrolling from 11pm of December 31 till 2am of January 1, 2012.

“Special patrolling will be conducted from 11pm to 2am at all prominent hotels, bars and clubs. Ten hotels, including Maurya, Chanakya, President, Satkar, Mayur, Amrapali and Ashoka, will be under strict vigil. Police officers, including women constables, will be deputed there,” Singh added.

Sources said the security in and around the diara areas would also be beefed up.

“The police have been asked to patrol the diara areas where people arrange picnics. The cops would keep an eye on all liquor shops on December 31 to ensure that they down shutters by 10pm. The police would also press breath analysers into use. The Quick Mobile teams have been asked to patrol roads round-the-clock to check rash driving,” the SSP told The Telegraph.

All the magistrates and police officials will be in constant touch with the control room to share information.

Patna Medical College and Hospital and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital have also been put on alert.

“We have asked them to ensure additional doctors were on duty on the New Year Eve and January 1,” said the DM.
