Patna, Feb. 16: The state government is not going to introduce sex education in the Class X syllabus as it would lead to a ruckus, said State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) director Hasan Waris today.
He also said including of sex education in school syllabus would be against the very ethos of Indian culture. Also the society in Bihar — especially in rural areas — is not ready to accept such education.
Persons with vested interests were spreading malicious rumours about the introduction of sex education in school education, he added
Hassian said: “Teachers in Bihar are not fully trained to instruct students about sex education. To include the subject in school syllabus, there is a need for social development as well as proper training for teachers.”
Students’ bodies have also raised objection protested against the state government’s alleged move to introduce sex education in school syllabus.
All India Democratic Students’ Organisation had threatened to launch an agitation against the introduction of sex education in schools.
When asked where they had learnt about the proposed move of the government, AIDSO members said they had read about it in newspaper reports. Hussain said such reports were inauthentic.
Earlier, AIDSO members had said the state government was going to introduce sex education in schools from next year for Class IX and XI. They also alleged that such education will directly corrupt and pollute the minds of children.
AIDSO members also alleged that the state government was planning to introduce the sex education on the lines of other states where the society is more liberal. But in the case of Bihar, where the society is still very orthodox, such a move uncalled for.
Meanwhile teachers and academician have different opinion on the on the subject.
Sudarshan Central School principal Neeta Singh said: “Before introducing sex education in school syllabus the state government should think rationally about where to draw the line.”
