Patna, March 5: Satyam Bharatiya, the son of slain Siwan BJP leader Srikant Bharatiya, apprehends threat to his life.
Satyam lodged a complaint with the Siwan Town police station today after he was allegedly threatened with dire consequences by an anonymous caller.
In the complaint, Satyam said he received a call on his cell phone around 9am today. The anonymous caller told Satyam not to pursue the case related to his father's murder, the complaint says.
Srikant Bharatiya, who was the political spokesperson of Siwan BJP MP Om Prakash Yadav, was shot dead by motorcycle-borne criminals in Siwan town on November 23 last year. A case was lodged against unidentified persons in that connection.
Initial probe revealed that former RJD MP from Siwan, Mohammed Shahabuddin, now in jail, had allegedly given a supari (contract) to a Uttar Pradesh gang to kill Srikant. A sharp-shooter, Shailendra, was later arrested from Uttar Pradesh in the case and subsequently forwarded to jail.
When contacted, Satyam said he was being pressurised for quite some time not to pursue the murder case. 'I immediately informed senior police officials about the threat call. Later, a formal complaint was registered on the instruction of senior officials,' he told The Telegraph over phone.
Siwan superintendent of police Vikas Burman said security of the slain BJP leader's family has been beefed up in the wake of the latest development. 'The statement of the complainant (read Satyam) is being verified,' he added.
A senior officer of the state's intelligence wing had earlier sent a report to the police headquarters suggesting that the controversial former MP's goons have prepared a list of two dozen persons, who were on their radar ostensibly for political reasons.
Shahabuddin's wife Heena Shahad twice lost to the BJP's Om Prakash Yadav in the past as many general elections. Since the last Lok Sabha poll, several political party workers have been attacked by Shahabuddin's men in Siwan, the report revealed.
Shahabuddin was debarred from contesting elections after being convicted in a kidnapping-cum-murder case. At present, he is serving a life sentence in the Siwan divisional jail. The name of Shahabuddin's son, Osama Shahab, had also figured in a murder case, a source in the police headquarters said.
