The state’s premier varsity stands to lose many students to other states owing to delay in publishing the admission notification for postgraduate courses.

According to Patna University (PU) sources, classes for postgraduate courses, scheduled to start by mid-July would be delayed this year. Sources added that the reason behind the delay is the non-declaration of third-year undergraduate results. The science results were declared last month but the humanities and commerce marks are yet to published.

Many students have been visiting the varsity main campus daily to inquire about their results. Raj Sinha, a third-year history student at Patna College, said: “Owing to delay in publication of undergraduate results, students are facing problems. The notification for admission to postgraduate courses is yet to be issued by the varsity.”

Raj added: “On one hand, the administration claims of following the academic calendar with timely publication of results for all courses but the third-year humanities results are yet to be declared. The delay would affect the admission for postgraduate courses. The biggest sufferers would be students aspiring to study vocational courses.”

A teacher of rural management said: “The delay will affect the entire admission process as students have already started applying to different universities outside the state, which have issued their admission notifications.”

However, the PU administration claimed the admission notification would be issued soon. The varsity vice-chancellor, Arun Kumar Sinha, said: “The notification will be issued this week and the sale of admission forms for postgraduate courses would start soon.” The delay in publication has not only hampered the prospects of PU home students but also those from other varsities.

Sources said the reason behind the delay in issuing admission notification and declaration of results was because of the uncertainty prevailing for the past three months.

Sources added that after the stay order on appointment of PU VC Shambu Nath Singh, the varsity was functioning with temporary VCs.
