Patna: The government railway police (GRP) on Saturday recovered the body of a 30-year-old youth, said to be a close relative of Ashok Singh, BJP MLA from Ramgarh Assembly seat in Kaimur district, from the railway track in Aurangabad district.
Police said the dead was identified as Udit Ranjan, a resident of Kali Sthan locality of Sasaram town in Rohtas district. The body was recovered from the track between Anugrah railway halt and a bridge on the Sone river under the jurisdiction of Sone Nagar GRP.
Udit, a post-graduate in engineering, had left Patna for Sasaram by the Patna-Bhabua Intercity Express on Friday evening. Sources said he had arrived in Patna to drop his sister, who is enrolled at an institute in the city.
The legislator spoke to senior police officials of Aurangabad and the government railway police to demand that a forensic team visit the spot. Later, forensic experts collected evidence from the site.
A case of unnatural death was lodged with the Sone Nagar GRP. Family members told police that Udit's friend Vivek, with him on the train, spoke to him when the train was crossing Rafiganj railway station in Aurangabad district at night. Vivek couldn't find Udit on his seat when the train reached Dehri-on-Sone. He tried to trace him but in vain. In the morning he reached Sasaram and handed over Udit's bag to his family members, who suspected foul play.
Vivek told interrogators he fell asleep when the train crossed Rafiganj. "What happened to him on the train later is not known to me," Vivek said adding that he (Udit) might have fallen off the running train out of negligence.
Sone Nagar police station house officer (SHO) Kamal Kishore Singh said a case of unnatural death has been lodged. "Further action will be taken on the basis of post mortem report," he told The Telegraph over phone. The post-mortem report is awaited.
The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Family members said Udit ran a coaching institute for engineering aspirants at Sasaram.
Deepak case
The police have, meanwhile, failed to make any headway in the mysterious death of Deepak Mandal, son of JDU MLA Bima Bharti. Deepak's body was found on the railway track near Nalanda Medical College on Friday. Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said he visited the spot thrice to get clues.
