Patna: All households in eight districts of Bihar have been electrified.

The districts carrying this distinction are Bhojpur, Munger, Sheikhpura and Nalanda in South Bihar and Gopalganj, Purnea, Supaul and Kishanganj in north Bihar.

The Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited chairman-cum-managing director Pratyaya Amrit shared this information with The Telegraph on Wednesday.

This newspaper had reported about a target having been set by the two power distribution companies - North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, which are executing the household electrification work - to complete the work by June end last month in the aforementioned districts.

Having achieved the first target, the power companies are not leaving anything to chance and letters have been written to all district magistrates concerned and people's representatives to provide details in case any household had been left during the electrification drive. "We would do the needful in case any such details come from the districts where we have completed the work," Pratyaya said.

The achievement has led to electrification of 15.3 lakh households till June, almost a lakh more than what had been aimed earlier when a presentation had been made before chief minister Nitish Kumar few days back. At the time of launch of household electrification work in Bihar in November 2016, there were an estimated 28 lakh such households which were in need of electrification.

The power companies have decided to maintain the pace of household electrification in July as well and a target has been set to complete this work in another eight districts by the end of the current month.

"We are aiming to complete household electrification work in Araria, Katihar, Khagaria, Begusarai, Gaya, Nawada, Aurangabad and Jamui districts by July end," said the holding company CMD and added that the aim was to complete the work before the flood season sets in.

After completion of household electrification in the aforesaid districts the number of electrified households would jump to around 18 lakh by July end, leaving around 10 lakh more households to be electrified. "The pace of work will be affected during flood season but we are confident of completing household electrification work by December," Pratyaya said.

The state government has set December 2018 as the target for household electrification work.
