The wife of businessman Ajay Shankar Tiwary, who was murdered recently, faces arrest for allegedly conspi- ring the crime along with her brother-in-law.

Ajay, who was a retailer and wholesaler of lubricant oil, was shot dead barely a few steps from his Sector-4 residence in the Dwarika Puri under Patrakar Nagar police station on the morning of March 3.

“At present, Ajay’s kin are busy with the last rites. Once they are through with the rituals, Ajay’s wife will be taken into custody and questioned,” an officer at the Patrakar Nagar police station told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

On March 7, Meghan Tiwary, a cousin of the deceased, was arrested on the charge of being the main conspirator in the murder. The man was allegedly having an affair with Ajay’s wife, the police had said, adding that she was not only aware of the murder plan but was also involved in it. “Meghan’s statement needs to be verified and the matter investigated. Once we take Ajay’s wife into custody, we will question her,” an officer at Patrakar Nagar police station told The Telegraph on Wednesday.

Meghan, who was nab- bed by a special team of police from Shastri Nagar area of Darbhanga, had been having a relationship with Aarti for more than two years, the police claimed.

Sources said the woman’s involvement in the murder could not be ignored.

“The wife’s involvement seems evident. The duo were having an affair since long. In 2010, the woman, who was already married to Ajay, left him and went to Delhi with Meghan. She stayed there for at least two months before returning because of family pressure. The relationship between the woman and her husband had soured ever since and the couple were not at all friendly though having two children. With Meghan deciding to kill Ajay and hiring contract killers to execute the job, it does not seem possible that Aarti would not know anything about it. The planning too was done carefully. The police firmly suspect her involvement,” another police officer said.

The police said they were trying to track down the two gunmen who had shot at Ajay.

“Meghan has been interrogated and the police have got more leads on the killers. Investigations are on and cops are trying to trace the duo. They will be arrested soon. The police believe that Aarti, when questioned, can divulge more vital information which will clear the case further,” the officer added.
