Like any other cricket enthusiast, Mukund Prasad Singh was glued to a television set on Friday when Sachin Tendulkar scored his hundredth ton at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Bangladesh.

But while most of Sachin’s fans cheered for the Master Blaster, the 55-year-old mathematics graduate was busy jotting down records of the match, something he has been doing for over three decades.

Mukund’s passion for Team India was rewarded a day after Sachin scored his hundredth century as the Samastipur resident found a place in Limca Book of Reco-rds for writing Indian cricket match records for 36 years.

An insurance adviser by profession, Mukund lives at Bathua Bujurg village under Sarairanjan block. He has been striving for three years to get a place in record books. But success came his way on March 17, when he received the certificate. Mukund told The Telegraph: “I have been writing a diary since childhood. I learnt it from my maternal grandfather, Jamuna Prasad Singh, who was an honorary magistrate.”

He added: “There was a time when I used to listen to Mohammad Rafi’s songs on radio. One day, I came across a cricket match commentary. I liked the way of expression. I decided to pen down the statistics on December 17, 1976. It was an India versus England Test match. Since then, I am jotting down details of matches involving my country.”

Mukund said: “I have details of eight cricket World Cups, over 1,500 One Day International tournaments, three Championship Leagues, four Indian Premier Leagues and all Twenty20 cricket world cups. I have compiled the reco-rds at the library in my home.”
