Patna, March 15: Following the example of famous cyber security expert Ankit Fadia, an undergraduate student of Bachelor in Computer Applications (BCA) of Patna College has written a book on computer programming.

The student, Ankur Arman, finished the book — Programming@speed of light — in two years.

The book deals with various aspects of computer programming right from the basics to the advanced level.

Arman, son of a retired schoolteacher in Motihari, comes from a middle class family. Talking about hisbook, the final-year BCA student said the book reflects his two years of hard work.

“The idea of writing the book struck me when I was in BCA first year. It came to my mind after I started facing difficulties while making computer programmes,” Arman told The Telegraph.

He said the objective behind writing the book is to make the computer language more user-friendly.

“The idea is to make the book and computer languages more user-friendly so that the students do not face the difficulties I did in the first stage of my graduation.”

The introductory pages of the book deal with what is programming. There are examples of more than 100 computer programmes with their solutions.

Arman said: “Generally, it has been seen that students feel scared while making computer programmes. A computer programme is actually nothing but a set of instructions written in a particular language to meet the end result.”

“There are different methods of computer programming with different computer languages. Using these methods, a user has to write programmes that deals with an organisation’s database and the process information, or design complicated software that can handle and operate machines,” added Arman.

When Arman first tried to make a computer programme, he committed seven mistakes in the first five lines. But his initial hiccup did not prevent him from learning the language.

Programming@speed of light also deals with the various aspects of bluetooth device, a detailed description about various computer programmes such as C, C++, Java and others.

The book has been written following the change in the syllabus by University Grants Commission (UGC) at the graduate level.

Arman has gone through more than 500 books on computer programming and regularly searched the website of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) for writing the book. A city-based publication house, Jagriti Sahitya, has published 1000 copies of the book, priced at Rs 120 each.

M.M. Patnaik, head of BCA department at Patna College, said: “It is a very proud moment for us that a student of our college has not even completed his graduation and already written a book on programming.”

He said that this is the first time a student of Patna College has written book while pursuing his graduation. The HoD added that he would make the book compulsory for all BCA students of the college.
