A former BJP MLA's son on Wednesday kidnapped one of his classmates in daylight over a "minor quarrel" but the victim was recovered within an hour.

The son of former BJP MLA from Barhara in Bhojpur district, Asha Devi, had abducted his classmate from the gate of DAV-BSEB School around 1pm. A few students of the institution present on the spot alerted the principal and police were informed immediately. The cops acted promptly and spotted the vehicle the victim was dragged into near Patna zoo. The two persons arrested from the four-wheeler said the victim was let off on Bailey Road after being threatened at the city residence of the former legislator.

Asha Devi termed the incident "a minor quarrel between two boys in a school". "It should not be taken very seriously by anyone. It was a minor quarrel and the other boy was constantly terrorising my son. I have talked to the police about it. I cannot make more comments now," she said.

An officer of Shahstri Nagar police station said: "Asha Devi's son is a Class XII student of DAV-BSEB school. He and the victim - one of the classmates of the former MLA's son - were having some problems for some time. They quarrelled over some issue almost everyday."

The cop said: "After the classes got over on Wednesday, an SUV (sports utility vehicle) of Asha Devi stopped in front of the school gate and the victim was dragged into it. Some students noticed it and informed the principal. The school authorities immediately got in touch with the police and gave them the registration number of the car."

After getting the information, the policed sounded an alert in all the nearby areas and started searching for the SUV. The vehicle was spotted near the zoo after an hour and two persons inside - Chandan, a relative of Asha Devi, and the SUV driver, driver Kalicharan.

The officer said the victim was taken to the residence of Asha Devi at the Kesri Nagar area in Shastri Nagar and was threatened with dire consequences if he fought again with the former MLA's son. The former legislator was not at home then.

The officer said: "Asha Devi's associates threatened and terrorised the victim in his absence. With the victim terrified, they got him into the car again and let him go after reaching the Bailey Road. The SUV was moving along the Patna zoo area when the police spotted it. The two arrested persons were inside the car. During interrogation, the duo admitted that they had picked up the boy but had let him off after threatening him," the officer added.

Based on the statement of the victim, an FIR under Section 365 has been lodged against the duo.
