The incident occurred at about 8am when the Karimpur-bound bus from Nadia's Krishnagar was crossing Kanthalia village on Krishnagar-Domkol state highway.

The woman was going to her paternal house to attend the family ritual on the occasion of ensuing Durga Puja. Eye witnesses said the accident occurred when the woman was trying to bring out her mobile phone to receive a call.

"She was carelessly trying to open her bag when her arm went outside through the window and it got entangled with sacks loaded on the speeding lorry that eventuality snapped her arm," an eyewitness said.

Mihir Majumdar, brother of the woman said, "We urged doctors to try but they ruled out. The disability would put stress on the family's financial situation and she used to help her husband in his business."

Family sources claimed that since her husband, a small businessman, has been suffering from multiple illness and she begun selling sari for a living. The police have seized the bus on which the woman was travelling. But the driver has managed to escape. Police are also trying to arrest the goods carrier that was involved in the accident.
