Touch of class
Perhaps the biggest annual classical music event held in the city for close to sixty years, The Dover Lane Music Conference had started as a humble get-together of a few music lovers in the bylanes of south Calcutta way back in 1952. Over the years, it has turned out to be a prominent and prestigious music gathering and is now one of the most important events in the city’s cultural calendar. Showcasing both vocal and instrumental Hindustani and Carnatic music, this festival also provides an excellent opportunity for young, aspiring artistes to share the same platform with renowned maestros. This year’s festival is specially remarkable for bringing together veteran exponents along with outstanding musicians of the future. Having witnessed performances by both seasoned and fresh talent over the last three days, today, the concluding day of the festival features Jayateerth Mevundi (vocal), Rajendra Prasanna (flute), Ashwini Bhide (vocal) and Amjad Ali Khan (sarod; picture right).
